Guide: Configuring Line Crossing Detection on a Hikvision NVR/DVR

This guide explains how to configure and enable Line Crossing Detection on your Hikvision NVR or DVR and set up notifications on your mobile device through the Hik-Connect app.

Step 1: Enable Line Crossing Detection on the NVR

  1. Log in to Your NVR/DVR

    • Access your NVR/DVR interface via the monitor or a web browser.
  2. Navigate to Line Crossing Detection Settings

    • Go to Configuration > Event > Smart Event > Line Crossing Detection.
  3. Enable Line Crossing Detection

    • Select the desired camera channels and enable Line Crossing Detection.
  4. Define the Line and Direction

    • Draw a virtual line on the camera’s feed by clicking and dragging on the preview screen.
    • Choose the direction for detection:
      • A-B: Only alerts when objects cross from side A to side B.
      • B-A: Only alerts when objects cross from side B to side A.
      • Both: Alerts for crossings in both directions.
  5. Set Detection Rules

    • Adjust sensitivity to match your monitoring needs.
    • If available, enable Human/Vehicle Filtering to reduce false alarms.
  6. Link Notifications to the Surveillance Center

    • Under Linkage Action, tick Notify Surveillance Center and any other actions (e.g., recording or triggering an alarm).

Step 2: Enable Notifications on the Hik-Connect App

2.1 Configure Notification Settings in the App

  1. Open the Hik-Connect app on your mobile device.
  2. Go to the Device Settings for the NVR or the specific camera channel.
  3. Enable Alarm Notifications for the channels where Line Crossing Detection is activated.

2.2 Adjust Mobile Notification Preferences

  1. Ensure notifications are enabled for the Hik-Connect app:
    • iOS: Navigate to Settings > Notifications > Hik-Connect, and toggle on Allow Notifications.
    • Android: Go to Settings > Apps > Hik-Connect > Notifications, and ensure all notification options are enabled.
  2. Customise the notification type, such as sound, vibration, or pop-ups, according to your preference.

2.3 Test Notifications

  1. Simulate a line crossing by moving across the defined line in the camera’s field of view.
  2. Check that you receive a notification on your mobile device.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • No Notification Received:
    • Ensure the NVR or DVR is connected to the internet.
    • Verify that the line is correctly drawn, and the crossing direction is properly set.
    • Check that Notify Surveillance Center is enabled in the NVR’s or DVR's Linkage Action settings.
  • False Alarms:
    • Refine the line placement and adjust sensitivity.
    • Use Human/Vehicle Filtering to reduce alerts from irrelevant objects, if supported.

With Line Crossing Detection properly configured, you’ll benefit from precise alerts whenever a monitored area is breached, helping you stay proactive in your security management.
